MOFSL believes that it has a responsibility beyond its basic responsibility towards its stakeholders; a responsibility towards a larger constituency – the society. There are many who may not be as privileged as we are and we consider it our duty to help those deserving, to provide them with opportunities and enhance their lives. It is an investment for the future of the society. Our goal is to do our bit to make our planet a better place.

We are associated with the Light of Life Trust – Enlighten a Life, whose vision is to create an awakening amongst the underprivileged. We are contributing our resources to the society through them. We are forming a group of volunteers who will be going every weekend to the centres of this Trust to impart knowledge and skills to the children and their families. While some projects are already underway, more are on the anvil!

Blood Donation Drive 2010

14th June is observed as World Blood Donor Day. To commemorate this day, in 2010, blood donation drives were held in the offices of MOFSL PAN India throughout the week. Emailers were sent out to employees announcing the drive a few days prior to the drive. On the day of the drive Associates came forward proactively to do their bit for the society. Some were first timers, and were really scared of losing too much blood, while there were some others who regularly donated and came forth confidently to give their contribution to saving lives.  In a span of just 3 days, over 71,000ml of blood was donated by MOFSL employees! It was very touching to see that at some locations people from nearby societies and offices also came forward to donate blood! Such initiatives remind us of our responsibility towards the society. World Blood Donor Day is an opportunity to raise awareness among citizens about the importance of this noble gesture that saves others lives.

MOSL Employees Charity Contribution at the JJ Hospital, Mumbai:

A small cutting in the newspaper that appealed for fruits for the terror attack victims admitted at the JJ Hospital, set off a chain reaction amongst the MOSL bunch of do gooders. A common email was sent out to the employees at HH Mumbai (merely for the ease of convenience to collect), the response was overwhelming and we managed to collect Rs.20,000 in a day alone. On calling the hospital they said they did not need fruits anymore but could definitely do with some new mattresses for the patients. So 20 new foam mattresses were made to order as per their size requirements and about 400 packets of biscuits packed in addition.

On 15th Dec 08, four of our representatives Deepika Mahajan, Mona Mohan, Bimalji, Nimmi and office boy Vinyak  handed over the mattresses to the Dean of the hospital Dr.Sabnis and then went out to the wards to meet the patients, to whom we distributed biscuits in person. Mrs. Sunita Agarwal very graciously agreed to accompany us.

There were patients with gun shot wounds and most were from cities outside Mumbai. Each had his own story to narrate, an old man with a bullet wound in the thigh had come to visit his daughter who lives at Mumbai, and was determined to come back still another time. A really fit looking young man was here to take his police written entrance test after having already cleared the PT. Ten minutes after landing in Mumbai for the first time in Mumbai from Sholapur, he was shot in the leg shattering his bone and also his dream of being a policeman forever. On asking if he needed anything, he asked for a job.

Amreen, a class IX student with a big cheerful smile had suffered a sudden paralytic attack that had rendered her bed ridden immediately; all she wanted was that we pray for her to get well soon, while her waiting school books lay neatly piled next to her bed. A SBI guard who was shot in the abdomen in the street outside Nariman House and many others met and touched the hearts of the MOSL team. The entire experience was very moving and a reminder to live our lives with happiness and grace.

It is important we reach out and show our fellow humans we care, however small the gesture may have been, we are glad the MOSL family contributed.

Eye Check up Camp:

An Eye Care Workshop was organised for employees in Malad, which was held at PalmSpring Center on Dec 19, 2008 and in Kanchpada on Dec 21, 2008. The Workshop was organised in collaboration with Parekh Eye Hospital.

The Hospital Staff conducted a basic eye test which helped identify any eye problems and also counseled the employees regarding any queries they may have. The staff also held a small lecture on “Eye Care for Computer Users” and handed out some brochures, handouts and leaflets about eye care.

The workshop had a huge turnout with 95 employees at Palm Spring Center and 65 employees in Kanchpada. An Eye Care Workshop was organised at Hoechst House in collaboration with Dr. Shounak Parekh’s Hospital on Jan 21, 2009. Being an organisation where an average employee spends atleast 6 hours everyday in front of the computer, we specifically feel concerned about our associates’ vision. This workshop was an initiative to make the associates more aware about Eye Care. The workshop consisted of a basic eye examination to detect any problems with one’s vision.

Also a small talk was organised to guide employees to take care of stress faced by the eyes due to excessive computer usage. A total of 70 people from Hoechst House and Bajaj Bhavan attended the workshop. Thus, along with the eye care work shops held in Malad, a total of 230 employees of MOFSL have had their eyes tested so far.

We hope to conduct many more such programmes across the country as well…
