How to Link Aadhaar with Ration Card?

30 Oct 2023

An Aadhar card needs to be mapped to a number of key documents! One such document that needs to be mapped is your ration card. Ration card is a family proof of identity that entitles you to claim concessional items of daily needs. This helps you in keeping your monthly food budget in check. How do you link your ration card with your Aadhar card? The process is actually quite simple.

As we all know, ration cards are used by individuals to get food at a subsidized rate. However, in certain cases, an individual obtains more than one ration card due to which others will not be able to get the benefit. This method has been quite common in the past and hence digitization of ration cards was introduced in India some years back. However, despite these checks and balances, there are still a lot of such ratio cards floating around. To overcome such cases, the government has decided to link all valid ration cards with an individual’s Aadhaar card. Since the Aadhar card is biometric tested and recorded, the scope for duplication is very limited.

How to link your Aadhar card to your ration card online?
You can follow the basic required steps for linking Aadhaar card to your ration card online, the below-mentioned steps should be followed:

You must start by visiting the official Aadhaar linking website and click on “Start Now” button. Next, you need to enter your address details including district and state. Enter these details carefully as mapping becomes easier in that case. The next step is to select the specific benefit type as “Ration card” from the options given therein.

Once you choose the scheme name as “ration card”, the next step for you is to enter your ration card number, Aadhaar number, email address and mobile number. Once this is done, there will be the standard OTP process to validate the details entered. An OTP (One Time Password) will be sent to the mobile number which you have entered in the form.

Once you enter the OTP number, you will get a notification informing you that your application process is completed. Of course, this is not as seamless as linking your bank account or your PAN card. Once the online submission is made, then the application will be verified and after successful verification of the application, your Aadhar card will be linked to your ration card.

You can also link your Aadhar card to your ratio card offline
If you don’t want to do the process online or are not comfortable doing so, then you can use the offline method of mapping. You need to adopt the following steps.

Visit the ration office with the photocopies of Aadhaar cards of all family members as well as a photocopy of your ration card. If you are the head of the family, then the Aadhar cards of all the family members will get mapped to that single ratio card only. In case there are any additions in the future to your family, you can always add them later to the ration card along with the Aadhar card mapping.

Carry the photocopy of bank passbook if you have not linked your Aadhaar card to your bank account. You must also carry a passport sized photograph of the head of the family and all these documents need to be submitted at the ration Office. You will get the notification via SMS or email once all the documents have reached the relevant department.

Once the authorities verify all the documents submitted by you, the authorities will process all your documents and the notification will appear once your ration card is successfully linked to the Aadhaar cards.
