How to Link Aadhaar with UAN for EPF?

30 Oct 2023

With the introduction of the Universal Account Number (UAN) for employee provident fund accounts, the EPF is no longer as complex as transferring your PF from one outfit to another. Your UAN can be used across any organization and now the government has made it mandatory to link your UAN also with Aadhar. The introduction of UAN has helped create a centralized access to an employee’s provident fund and that has enabled processes like transfers and withdrawals in a matter of few days. But how to link Aadhar with UAN EPFO and what are the benefits that the EPFO UAN link with Aadhar will give you. Let us first look at the process of mapping.

How to link Aadhar card with EPF Account

The Employee Provident Fund (EPF) is a scheme that helps all the employees to save a small amount from their monthly salary, which will be given to them at the time of their retirement. Normally, the employer also contributes an equivalent amount to the corpus at par with the employee contribution. Savings made under EPF are tax-free. By linking your Aadhaar number to your EPF account, it will become easier to verify all the details of the account holders. It can make the entire process of redemption very quick and smooth.

You can link your Aadhar card to the EPF UAN online
You can follow the below process to link your Aadhar card with your EPF UAN number.

You can visit the website of EPF India, which is (https://epfindia.gov.in/eKYC) and navigate from there. The linking facility is displayed quite prominently on the home page. Alternatively, you can also go into Google and search for the following “Link Aadhar to EPF UAN” and you will be automatically directed to the respective page directly.

Enter your UAN, mobile number linked with the UAN and then click on Generate OTP. An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. Type in the OTP you have received and select the gender.

Next you have to input your Aadhaar number and then choose the “Aadhaar Verification” method. You have two options to choose from. You can either verify through mobile/email authentication or you can directly use biometric authentication, which actually becomes a lot simpler for you.

If you choose the “Use Mobile/Email based verification” option then you will get an OTP to complete the verification. Biometric verification is only possible on select instruments with the scanning facility in-built.

Key benefits of linking UAN to Aadhar
In fact, the EPFO, which has over 4 crore subscribers, has requested its members to link their EPF account with Aadhaar to enable easy verification of details. Here are some of the key benefits of linking Aadhaar number with your EPF account:

Since your Aadhaar card contains all the authentic information, it is easier to verify all your details if you link your Aadhaar with EPF account as it contains all your information including biometrics and demographic details including retina scan and thumb detection.

When the Aadhaar is linked to your EPF account, there will be less chances of having a duplicate account. Owning an Aadhaar card itself is proof of being an Indian citizen. So, when the Aadhaar details are produced, it means an employee can only have a single EPF or UAN account. This also gives authenticity to your account.

One of the advantages is that you can now withdraw your PF online without the attestation of your employer. The entire process can be completed online without any hassle. This is specifically a problem when your employer tends to delay pushing your PF papers through due to some differences at the time of your exit. Such situations can be avoided and your PF can be immune to such actions.
