What to do when you don't receive your Aadhar card?

Your Aadhar cards are normally sent by post within a period of 90 days. But what happens if you don’t receive your card even after 90 days. In case of Aadhar card not yet received after 90 days, you can escalate to the next level of action. Here is what to do if Aadhar card is not received.


Remember that after you apply for Aadhaar card, it may take up to 3 months for you to get it. Firstly, make sure that your Aadhaar has been generated. You can check the status of your Aadhar online by visiting the UIDAI website and entering your enrolment number in the appropriate place. There are different reasons for your Aadhar card being rejected including wrong information, incomplete details, incomplete documentation, mismatch in details with documentation etc.


You don’t need to receive Aadhar; you can as well download it
If your Aadhaar has been generated but you have not received the card, that is not a problem. You can just download it from the UIDAI website with your enrolment number and your mobile number support for OTP. The downloaded card in PDF format can be printed and that is as good as the original. Here is the detailed process flow.

You can get your Aadhaar copy online from the Aadhar website or its mobile app

If you have not received Aadhaar by post, download e-Aadhaar card from the UIDAI’s website. An e-Aadhaar card is a soft copy of your Aadhaar card. It is acceptable at all places and can be downloaded from UIDAI’s website.

You can only download the same in the mobile where the number is already registered with UIDAI, not in any other phone.

Fill out the form which includes your full name, pin code, security text and mobile number as shown in the tab.

At the end of the section, after you click the “Request OTP” button, you will receive an OTP (One Time Password) on your registered mobile number and/or email address.

Step 5: Enter this OTP in the “Enter OTP” field and click on the “Download Aadhaar” button. You will require a password combining your date of birth and pin code to open the document.

You can also get Aadhar via SMS on your registered mobile phone

You can get the SMS Aadhar by visiting the website at https://resident.uidai.gov.in/get-aadhaar-no.  Next you need to fill out the 28-digit enrolment number given in your acknowledgement slip, your registered mobile number and the security code displayed in the form. Here again you will be verified with an OTP sent to you mobile. Once the mobile authentication is done, your verification is complete and you will receive your Aadhaar details via SMS on your mobile phone.


What if your application was rejected?
As stated earlier, an Aadhar application can be rejected for various reasons like a duplicate application, insufficient details, insufficient documentation, document mismatch etc. Normally, when the Aadhar is rejected, you are immediately intimated by SMS so you are informed well in advance. Once the application is rejected, the following process needs to be followed:

In case the application was rejected due to insufficient documentation, then you need to revisit the Aadhar centre and complete the documentation. Once that is rectified, your application should go through immediately.

In case, there is a problem, of duplication application, then you need to cancel one of the old Aadhar applications or updated the same application rather than apply for a fresh one.

In case there is a mismatch between the documents, either you can produce some alternative proofs or you can get an affidavit confirming that the error is purely clerical and such an affidavit can still be accepted.
