The S&P BSE 100, also known as the Standard & Poor's Bombay Stock Exchange 100, is a prominent stock market index in India. It represents the top 100 companies listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange based on market capitalisation. The S&P BSE 100 is designed to provide investors with a comprehensive and accurate benchmark of the Indian equity market. As the BSE’s indices are developed in collaboration with Standard and Poor’s, they bear the prefix S&P.

The S&P BSE 100 is calculated using a free-float market capitalisation-weighted methodology. It means that the index value is determined by considering the total market value of all the constituent stocks. The market capitalisation of each stock is calculated by multiplying its current market price by the number of outstanding shares. The formula for calculating index value is as follows:

Index Value = (Total Free Float Market Capitalisation / Base Market Capitalisation) x Base Index Value

The weightage of each stock in the S&P BSE 100 is determined as a percentage of the total market capitalisation of all the stocks in the index. The Index Committee conducts a semi-annual review every six months to assess and modify the composition of the S&P BSE 100, ensuring it remains aligned with the evolving dynamics of the market.

The daily closing price of the S&P BSE 100 is determined by calculating the weighted average of closing prices for all constituent stocks after each trading day. It is crucial to note that the index's closing price is a dynamic and fluctuating value, subject to change daily in response to the ongoing activities in the market.
