Nifty has ended positive in December on six occasions in the last 10 years indicating a favorable seasonality in the final month of the year. Nifty50's highest December gains in a decade stood at 8% in 2023 on the back of massive buying by foreign investors. Nifty finished December positively in 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2023 while in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2022, it closed with declines.

Sensex recovers 400 pts from day's low, Nifty pares losses

Following a weak start, benchmark indices pared almost all losses to trade marginally in the negative after a sharp rally in auto, realty and pharma stocks helped regain momentum. However, bank and IT stocks edged lower as markets entered the last month before the start of the new year. At about 9:40 am,  the Sensex was down 79,643, down 0.2% while the Nifty was down at 24,116, lower by 0.1%.
