S&P 500, Nasdaq hit record closing highs; Lululemon gains

The Nasdaq and the S&P 500 rose to record closing highs on Friday following upbeat forecasts from Lululemon Athletica and other companies and as U.S. jobs data fueled expectations the Federal Reserve would cut interest rates this month. The Dow finished lower, as a 5.1% drop in UnitedHealth Group shares weighed on the index. The S&P 500 consumer discretionary index rose 2.4%.

Liquidity boost to improve core profitability at lenders

The Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) first cut in the cash reserve ratio (CRR) since March 2020 is likely to provide much needed liquidity to the banking system, cooling off bulk deposit rates and lift core profitability of lenders by up to 5 basis points, bankers said.One basis point is a hundredth of a percentage point. The 50-basis point cut in CRR to 4% will release a total of ₹1.16 lakh cr.

RBI introduces new interest rate benchmark

The Reserve Bank of India introduces the Secured Overnight Rupee Rate (SORR), a new interest rate benchmark based on secured money market transactions, to improve credibility and representation of the overnight market funding rate, replacing the Mumbai Interbank Outright Rate (MIBOR) that has been in use since 1998.
