Tin surges as Indonesia cracks down on illicit mining

London Metal Exchange (LME) three-month tin price has jumped to over $37,500 per metric ton, its highest since April. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto aims to close 1,000 illegal mines, with some estimates suggesting this could represent around 80% of all tin production in the Bangka Belitung region. The move is expected to further strain the already fragile tin supply chain.
