India sees slowest Demat account openings in 6 years in 2025

India's demat account growth slowed to 16.5% in 2025, the slowest pace in six years, with a total of 21.59 crore accounts. CDSL added 2.62 crore accounts, while NSDL added 0.44 crore, resulting in totals of 17.28 crore and 4.32 crore respectively. Demat account additions were 3.06 crore in 2025, compared to 4.60 crore in 2024.
