Congo to build gold reserves due to rising prices

The Democratic Republic of Congo's central bank governor, Andre Wameso, plans to build gold reserves to bolster its currency and economy. Congo, Africa's 10th largest gold producer, has not held gold as a store of value despite large deposits, with some output sold illicitly. Gold prices have scaled record highs above $4,000 an ounce, driven partly by strong central bank buying.
