Nirmala Sitharaman announces UPI, RuPay subsidy in Union Budget 2026

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a Rs 2,000 crore subsidy for UPI and RuPay debit card in the Union Budget 2026, lower than industry expectations of Rs 4,500 crore. The industry demands Rs 10,000-12,000 crore in subsidies annually to enhance digital infrastructure. UPI has seen a 30% annual growth rate, with 21 billion transactions in January, valued at Rs 28 lakh crore.
