Hinduja group launches China battery production partnership

Ashok Leyland, flagship of the Hinduja family conglomerate, has signed a 20-year agreement with China's CALB Group to import lithium-ion cells and learn the assembly process, with plans to design and manufacture domestically in 7-10 years. The company will invest over 50 billion rupees ($563 mn) in the project, with ambitions to supply battery packs to other automakers and for grid-scale storage.
