Japan's Topix surges to record high despite US tariffs

Japan's Topix index closed at an all-time high of 3,187.02, a 0.05% increase. The tech-heavy Nikkei index plummeted 0.9% due to chip-sector shares, amid US tariffs on pharmaceuticals, although Takeda's share price dropped only 0.1%. Tariff negotiator Ryosei Akazawa said Japan has secured most-favoured nation status, while analyst Stephen Barker remains skeptical on pharma industry effects.
