Japan's Nikkei surges to record highs with SoftBank leading gains

Japan's Nikkei share average hit a record high of 48,580.44, up 1.8%, with SoftBank Group surging 11% and Yaskawa Electric 9.5% on its acquisition of ABB's robotics business. The index heavyweight alone added 466 points to the Nikkei's 845-point rally, surpassing the intraday peak of 48,597.08. The Topix gained 0.7%.
