US stocks rise as Trump tones down China rhetoric

US stocks recovered on Monday after President Trump's softer tone on trade tensions with China eased worries. The Dow Jones rose 218.9 points (0.48%), the S&P 500 rose 70.0 points (1.07%), and the Nasdaq Composite rose 374.2 points (1.69%). Gold prices also hit a record high, up 1.4% to $4,075.29 per ounce, while silver and platinum rose to all-time peaks.
