Demat accounts grow in India with a modest rise in January

India's NSE active demat account base grew to 4.511 crore in January 2026, a 3.02 lakh increase from December. Groww added 3.53 lakh active clients, raising its market share to 27.66%. Its market share has increased by 140 basis points over the past nine months. Other major brokerages reported muted trends, with some experiencing declines, indicating growth was not evenly distributed.
