About Nippon India Mutual Fund

Nippon India Mutual Fund is managed by Nippon Life India Asset Management Limited, registered with SEBI under Registration No. MF/022/95/1. The mutual fund was registered on June 30, 1995, and was earlier known as Reliance Mutual Fund. Its name changed to Nippon India Mutual Fund effective September 28, 2019. Nippon Life Insurance Company, a large Japanese insurer, took over as the controlling shareholder, a position it still holds today with close to 72% of the AMC. Assets under management sit somewhere around ₹7.5 to 8 lakh crore for April-June 2026, spread across equity, debt, and hybrid schemes, plus index funds and fund of funds.

A couple of things make this fund house genuinely stand out. For one, it was the first Indian mutual fund company to list its own shares publicly, so NAM India now trades on both the BSE and NSE, which means it carries a level of public financial disclosure that most privately held AMCs simply don't. It's also built one of the country's larger ETF businesses under the BeES name, and that includes Nippon India ETF Gold BeES, which has an interesting history of its own: it launched back in 2007 as India's very first gold ETF, years before it ended up under the Reliance (now Nippon India) umbrella through a 2015 acquisition. On top of that, the AMC has a real physical presence, with nearly 271 locations across the country and close to 89 lakh investor folios on its books.

The scheme lineup has some long runners in it as well. Nippon India Growth Fund has been managing money as a mid cap fund for close to three decades now, making it one of the oldest funds of its kind still running in India, and Nippon India Small Cap Fund has grown into one of the largest small cap funds in the country by assets. Whether you are drawn to the ETF range, gold ETFs, or a small cap or mid cap scheme with decades behind it, these and the rest of the Nippon India Mutual Fund lineup are available to browse and invest in through Motilal Oswal.
