Can You Make Changes To An NFT Metadata

NFTs are digital, and thus, they have metadata that identifies them. Now the question is, would you be able to make changes to the metadata? The answer is that while it is feasible to update the metadata of an NFT after it has been minted, doing so can be a difficult and time-consuming procedure. To make changes to an NFT metadata, you will need a thorough understanding of the blockchain technology.

You need to begin by altering the metadata URI in the NFT's source code. The next step varies based on how your NFT is manufactured and what its intended use is. Changing the NFT metadata of a game is not the same as changing that of an artwork. If you are unfamiliar with blockchain technology, you probably need to seek advice from someone who works in the field.

The following are the basic steps to update your NFTs metadata:

  1. Go to Etherscan.io.
  2. Locate your NFT's transaction.
  3. Select Contract from the drop-down menu.
  4. Click on Read Contract.
  5. Locate the token URI.
  6. In the given box, type your NFT token ID.
  7. This will display the NFT's properties as a string of numbers and letters, which you may copy and paste into your browser.
  8. This will lead you to a page where you can change your NFT's metadata.

Once you've arrived, you'll need to know how to code in order to make the modifications you want to your NFT's information. If your NFT is a movie, gif, or other moving picture, you'll need to take a few extra steps to alter it.

Changing the metadata of an NFT isn not always a good idea because the unique features of NFTs is part of their appeal. When you update an NFT metadata, you risk obliterating the NFT's rarity and the very reason it was deemed "collectible." If your NFT is a piece for a video game, on the other hand, you may need to update the information as the game changes. Once in use, these NFTs are also more likely to develop defects. As a result, changing the metadata of these types of NFTs is not a bad idea.

  • What In An NFT Cannot Be Changed?

There are a few things on an NFT that cannot be changed. The token ID and contact address, which are located where your NFT is stored on the blockchain, are the only aspects of that cannot be changed. While the NFT's function can be changed, you're best off burning (destroying) it and then minting a new one if you wish to change any of these.

Wrapping It Up

Whatever the cause may be, if you find yourself in need of changing an NFT you have minted, do not worry; it is possible. However, keep in mind that the procedure is not simple, and you will almost certainly need some coding skills to make the adjustments you want.

You will be able to make modifications to the NFT metadata whether the NFT is in your wallet or not. If you are making major modifications, it is probably best to start over with a fresh NFT to minimise any confusion or devaluation of your work.

However, you need to remember that the crypto space is highly speculative. You would require long-term financial investments such as fixed deposits, mutual funds, emergency funds and insurance in place. Consider investing in digital assets only if you have a surplus amount of money.
