Udyog Aadhar - Registration Process, Eligibility & UAM
Small businesses need a simple ID to get loans, tenders, and many government benefits. Earlier this was called Udyog Aadhaar and it gave a UAM number. Now the system has changed to Udyam Registration. It is fully online, free of cost, and paperless. You only need basic details and OTPs to complete it. If you already have a UAM number from the old system, you can move it to the new Udyam portal in a few minutes.
What changed from Udyog Aadhaar to Udyam
-
Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum (UAM) is the old system.
-
Udyam Registration is the current system used for MSME.
-
If you had UAM earlier, you should migrate it to Udyam to keep getting MSME benefits.
-
Registration is online, free, and does not need document uploads.
-
Only the official Udyam portal should be used.
Who can register (Eligibility)
These business types can register as MSME on the Udyam portal if they meet size limits:
-
Proprietorship, Hindu Undivided Family (HUF), Partnership firm, Company, LLP, Cooperative, Society, Trust.
-
Activities can be manufacturing, services, or both. Wholesale and retail trade can also register (benefits are limited mainly to bank lending).
-
One business gets one Udyam Registration. You can add many activities (multiple NIC codes) under the same registration.
Latest MSME size limits (from 1 April 2025)
-
Micro: investment up to ₹2.5 crore and turnover up to ₹10 crore
-
Small: investment up to ₹25 crore and turnover up to ₹100 crore
-

Your class is decided by both factors together. If you cross any limit, you move to the next class.
