PAN Card Corrections - Change Name, Address, Mobile Number

PAN (Permanent Account Number) is an important ID for every taxpayer in India. Sometimes you may need to update your PAN details for example, changing your name (after marriage or legal name change), updating your address (for communication), or correcting your mobile number (for OTPs and alerts).
You can do these updates in two ways: online (from home) or offline (by visiting a PAN centre). Here’s a step-by-step guide for both methods.

 Online Method (via PAN & Income Tax Portal)

A) Change Name Online

1. Visit Protean (NSDL) or UTIITSL website.

2. Select “Change/Correction in PAN” application.

3. Choose Individual and enter your PAN.

4. Tick the box for Name and type the correct name.

5. Upload supporting proof (marriage certificate, Gazette notification, passport with spouse’s name, etc.).

6. Pay the fee online and submit.

7. Note the acknowledgement number for tracking.

B) Change Address Online

1. Log in to the Income Tax e-Filing portal.

2. Go to My Profile → Contact Details.

3. Edit the Address, verify using OTP on your mobile/email, and save.

4. Alternatively, if filing a PAN correction request, update “Address for Communication” in the form.

C) Change Mobile Number Online

1. Log in to the e-Filing portal.

2. Go to My Profile → Contact Details.

3. Enter your new mobile number, verify with OTP, and save.

4. Mobile number is used for OTP verification during login, filing, and refunds.

Offline Method (via PAN Centre)

A) Steps for Any Correction

1. Download or collect the CSF form (Request for New PAN Card or/and Changes or Correction in PAN Data).

2. Fill the form in BLOCK letters and tick the box for the field you want to change (Name/Address/Mobile).

3. Paste two passport-size colour photos (3.5 × 2.5 cm). Sign across one photo and inside the box near the other.

4. Attach self-attested copies of:

   • Proof of Identity

   • Proof of Address

   • Proof of Date of Birth

   • Plus, specific proof for name change (marriage certificate, Gazette notification, etc.) if needed.

5. Submit the form at the nearest PAN/TIN Facilitation Centre and pay the fee.

6. Collect the acknowledgement receipt (15-digit number).

7. Track your application online using this acknowledgement number.

B) Change Name Offline

• Tick Name box and write the new name.

• Attach proof (marriage certificate, Gazette notification, passport with spouse’s name).

C) Change Address Offline

• Tick Address box and enter the new address.

• Attach proof (Aadhaar, passport, voter ID, driving licence, utility bill, or bank statement).

D) Change Mobile Number Offline

• Fill the new mobile number in the Telephone/Email section of the CSF form.

• Submit along with other proofs.
