What is Mahatma Gandhi NREGA or MGNREGA?
It guarantees 100 days of wage employment to any adult in any household who demands (self-selection) unskilled labour-related work. It is an arbitrated livelihood policy ensuring work on demand while helping workers steer clear of forced labour and perhaps seasonal unemployment.
Very simple: The Scheme of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act guarantees 100 days of employment to the adult wage labour or unskilled labour family of a person who is desirous of work. It is particularly beneficial for the country's rural populations, including women and Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes.
Any adult member of a rural household willing to do unskilled manual work can register under MGNREGA and obtain a Job Card. The purpose of the scheme is to provide livelihood security and create an asset base.
